Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2009

top10anticipatedmovies

The IMDB.com has 3,496 upcoming films listed for 2009. Taking in to account that about 70% of those will be pushed back, cancelled or buried away and never heard from again. From the remaining 30% I have picked what I believe to be the TOP 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2009.

10. Warcraft

t10warcraft

Rumored with very little information but also one of the most inevitable movies due to the success of the online game of the same name. If you thought there were alot of nerds in line for Lord of the Rings, just wait until you see the mob of priests and paladins standing outside your local theater on that day.

9. Jurassic Park IV: Extinction

t10jurassic

Trying desperately to make a real comeback, Jurassic Park is at it again only this time reenlisting the help of former JP actress Laura Dern to give it some story cred as if that will help. I still think my idea of having a T-rex eat Jeff Goldblum, crap him out and have scientists clone a Goldblum army to battle velociraptors would completely revive the series.

8. Friday The 13th

t10friday13

Jason’s back, again…but for the first time. Hoping for the success (if you can call it that) of fellow horror remakes like Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a studio has decided to retell the story of Voorhees but it is unknown if it will still just be his mother wearing the famed hockey mask. Oops…should have said “spoiler alert”.

7. Pee-Wee’s Playhouse: The Movie

t10peewee

I’m not sure if there will ever be enough time passed for us all to forget the Pee-Wee Herman theater incident but Paul Rueben is dusting of the grey suit anyway. Personally, I’d rather see Ruebens portray his character from the movie Blow and call it Derek Foreal’s Playhouse.

6. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

t10transformers

Optimus and Shia are back with another surefire blockbuster with giant transforming robots and smart-ass-ery abound. I was okay with the first one and as long as they stick to what worked it should succeed. While more Megan Fox couldn’t hurt, this will most likely just be another fun, Michael Bay Movie-Reel-Of-Explosions flick.

5. Watchmen

t10watchmen

Who’s watching the Watchmen in 2009? Anyone who wants an adult comic book movie with some actual depth and fantastic storytelling. Fanboys will be going crazy and if done correctly it could turn into something so unique that others will try to imitate it, albeit poorly.

4. G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra

t10gijoe

Part of me wants to jump for joy will excitement over seeing my favorite toys of the 80’s reenacting all those battles I had on the bedroom floor when I was a kid, the other part wants me to hunt down and kill whoever made the decision to change the appearance of every character I cared about. I understand that some characters might be a little behind the times as far as their appearance but if this movie is taking place in the future, they could have at least left in the lasers.

3. Greyskull: Masters of the Universe

t10greyskull

Like most movies starring Dolph Lundgren, it’s for the best if we just forgot they ever happened. This is not the He-Man you remember but from the sounds of it, you won’t care. It’s been said that this will be Lord of the Rings meets The Matrix with some Batman Begins thrown in. An edgy, almost R-rated version of itself. No jokes, no campy characters and absolutley no Orko, just a bad-ass combination of sorcery and high-tech weapons and even more bad-ass warriors.

2. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

t10wolverine

After seeing a sneak peek at the trailer for this movie, I’m not entirely sure about it being an origin story. I happen to know a little about Wolverine and can’t see how the Blob, Emma Frost or Gambit fit into this part of the timeline. On the other hand…Gambit, Emma Frost, and Deadpool are in this movie so what the hell am I complaining about?! So honestly, I don’t care if it’s true to the comic as I have already read them and I am desperate for something new and something Marvel.

1. The A-Team

“In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire… The A-Team.”

HELL YEAH. As long as they keep the casting under control and don’t go all Starsky and Hutch on this one it could be the movie I’ve been waiting years for. The only thing I don’t think I’ll be able to get past is someone other than Mr. T playing B.A. Baracus (especially if it’s Ice Cube who is rumored).

Most of these movies would suck!!!!

  2. Dan August 8th, 2008 at 3:48 pm

There’s no way JP4, WOW and He-Man will be ready for 2009. 2010 most likely. And how could you NOT include Terminator: Salvation in this list?! Watchmen is my pick for most anticipated. It’ll be interesting to see how GI Joe performs around the world, as the toy success didn’t really spread anywhere else outside of the US. Still, Sienna Miller in latex should be enough for most people :)

  3. Sensible Honky August 8th, 2008 at 3:54 pm

All of these movies will suck

  4. Julian Buttersweets August 8th, 2008 at 4:01 pm

What, no mention of the Arrested Development movie? These all look like bad jokes.

    The A-Team
Ice cube is going to make it cool
    Bruce Willis might play Hannable
and tha tool Woody Harrison might play “Face”

  10. Marco August 8th, 2008 at 4:40 pm

How can you forget TERMINATOR SALVATION?!

  11. Gooch August 8th, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Half of those movies aren’t even happening in 2009. Wolverine is the only one with any potential. How the fuck did this make the front page of digg?

  12. Ty Miles August 8th, 2008 at 4:43 pm

They need to get Kimbo Slice in the A-Team movie. That would be scary. Scary dude!

  13. anders August 8th, 2008 at 4:47 pm

    hello ? avatar ?

  14. jp August 8th, 2008 at 4:49 pm

all of these movies will suck. either you are a comic nerd or stuck in the 80’s but to call these the most anticipated in a normal logical society is absurd

  15. Mike August 8th, 2008 at 4:56 pm

Jesus Christ what a shitty lineup of movies. Is this the best hollywood can come up with?

  16. Zach August 8th, 2008 at 5:19 pm

You must be a comic book nerd. These movies are goign to suck …hardcore suck at that.

  17. wdwillis August 8th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

ok, the a-team movie is most likely nto gonna be great. ice cube has yet to ever act in a movie, so who knows. as for JP4… i thought they already made that, with mathew broderick?

as for peewee’s playhouse the movie…
well, paul reubens was a moderately funny comedian back in his day. but he never was even accused of molesting kid’s like MJ. he was just whacking it in an adult theatre playing adult movies with adults…

also, i really doubt the WOW movie as anything but hype ATM, especially for 2k9… i know ewe boll made a pitch for it, and they tossed him out on his ass.

  18. zeeol August 8th, 2008 at 5:50 pm

    WoW movie isnt for sur

  19. Tim August 8th, 2008 at 6:00 pm

What about “V” The Movie??? I know, it was just announced and might not be ready until O’10.

  22. sb August 8th, 2008 at 6:31 pm

Oh great. More fantasy cartoons. I can….hardly………wait.
Doesn’t anybody have a real human story to tell anymore?

  23. balls August 8th, 2008 at 6:34 pm

    Really? No Arrested Development?

  24. blah August 8th, 2008 at 7:06 pm

No Public Enemies? Terminator? Meh, do some research.

  25. gene August 8th, 2008 at 8:41 pm

how amazing > 10 new tires to keep the public rolling with anticipation

… and each new tire seems to be a recap of old ideas

… does anybody else think the media industry should be turned over to the public so the moms-n-pops of the world can produce fresh new content?

… oh, but if mom-n-pop made something new, they wouldn’t have the political muscle to turn their copywright into a lifetime annunity

… so maybe the problem is that the media is too focused on producing a lifetime annunity rather than a new tire to keep the public rolling in anticipation

  26. NB August 8th, 2008 at 8:51 pm

How is the Arrested Development movie not on here?

  27. Cyrious Garnetski August 9th, 2008 at 12:20 am

The top ten kid huh. When is your eleventh birthday?

  28. Mr. Spore August 9th, 2008 at 12:52 am

I really hope they don’t ruin my childhood memories of Pee Wee’s playhouse.

  29. Brent August 9th, 2008 at 1:20 am

James Cameron’s Avatar? Valkyrie? Where the Wild Things Are? Star Trek? The Wolfman? As others said, Terminator?

How did you miss all of these?

  30. Donny August 9th, 2008 at 2:18 am

How can none of you realize this is a joke?

  31. lkj;lkj; August 9th, 2008 at 3:26 am

    Where the Wild Things Are

  35. Krista Monkey August 13th, 2008 at 7:07 am

Most importantly…. how did you forget the Fraggle Rock movie?!! That’s the most anticipated movie of LIFE!!

  36. MoNSoN August 13th, 2008 at 10:01 am

Angels & Demons will be awesome. Why isnt that one on the list?

  37. Alan August 13th, 2008 at 1:41 pm

Halifax’s favorite A Team character was VAN.

  38. Stevie Wonder August 13th, 2008 at 1:54 pm

I am psyched for the Warcraft movie. Yeah, I’m that much of a nerd. (At least I don’t write fanfiction, though…)

  39. hasta August 13th, 2008 at 11:25 pm

are these for real??? or is this some strange, sick joke? a WORLD OF WARCRAFT MOVIE?! you have to be kidding me. *hides in shame for what the world is coming to*

  40. Manny August 14th, 2008 at 6:52 am

Playing World of Warcraft doesn’t make you a nerd … personally I like to dominate all games, I hope the way they make the film will be good.
Animation would make it a bit childish. Although if they make it with actors it will be extremely hard, but nothing short of what Lord of the Rings have achieved.

  41. hasil August 14th, 2008 at 8:06 am

hey, man. There’s noooo need to remake the He-Man movie. I seem to recall watching it at least once a day when I was 6, and Dolph Lundgren’s pretty badass. Remember Rocky IV?

  42. cherylt August 15th, 2008 at 4:08 pm

What happened to musicals, comedies, and animation? This should be retitled, “MY” Hotly anticipated movies of 2009. But nice list. Good to know what people are thinking about.

  43. ielectalk August 17th, 2008 at 8:40 am

    ohmy…

  44. miss August 27th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

looks like these movies aren’t worth watching..except for warcraft??

  45. miss August 27th, 2008 at 8:38 pm

i think this list is a joke.

  46. N September 11th, 2008 at 8:13 pm

    Is this a real list?
Come on…..HE MAN with actual humans in the roles? Who wants to be part of that joke in progress?
If they do an A-Team movie, can they make sure is isnt a joke like the Dukes of Hazzard and Miami Vice turned out to be.
Pee Wee? With or without a scene with him in an adult theatre?
No to another Jurassic Park…the first was awesome for the time it came out. Leave the dinosaurs alone please.
I hope they keep Wolverine as cool as he is in all the X Men movies. It remains to be seen, I guess.
Jason is dead….not in the lake, waiting for sinning campers to kill. His mother is dead too. Leave them buried. Freddie is way cooler.
Transformers was much better than expected, but will Transformers 2 make the same thing happen again? Since Micheal Bay is in charge, we can only hope.
Make something as good as The Dark Knight….Please!!!

I hope there really good films out there yet to be made and discovered.

My biggest wish is to see Capt. Jack and crew sailing back to us in the future. Now that will be a movie worth waiting for!

  47. bloomfever2002 October 1st, 2008 at 3:01 pm

Hollywood is definetly running out of ideas for a good blockbuster. Somone needs to get original out ther and quit digging in the past for idea.
Transformers 2 I can’t wait! Loved the first

Jurassic Park 4 ..ok I will watch it on DVD

Friday the 13th..unless Kane Hodder comes back as Jason and they use some better acting than some teenage boobs..might be ok to watch.

    The rest…forget it!!

  48. Tony October 12th, 2008 at 6:03 pm

If Watchmen is done well, it will be in the top 10 films of all time.

The others will be a complete pile of crap… especially xmen, what a dire franchise.

  49. TK October 27th, 2008 at 11:27 pm

Jeffrey Donovan NEEDS to play Murdoch

  50. jaime November 5th, 2008 at 12:44 am

    wheres my bloody valenting 3-d
must admit friday the 13 will be good though

    what a stupid list

  51. aggh! November 7th, 2008 at 6:16 am

Only one Watchmen comment proves that, no matter HOW good the film is going to be, its going to unfortunatley die on its arse. There’s too much comic book crap out there to attract any one but die hards to the film (ok, them and their unfotrunate spouse..). This said, I’ve got a nasty feeling it’s going to turn out like “V”, i.e. confuse the hell out of the lay and really f#$k off the fans.
I just hope that Neil G remains to see sense and keeps a certain *person* as far away from the grubby mits’ of the execs as possible!

  52. Lys November 8th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

    TWI freakin LIGHT! seriouslyyy.

  53. Mark November 9th, 2008 at 10:29 am

no. no it won’t be. because michael bay is behind it. and he ruins everything he touches. the birds will be bad, and so will a nightmare on elm street, because he’s behind them. jackass. let other people who know how to do horror

  54. Fucking Cunts November 9th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

People bashing The Watchmen clearly haven’t read it. Its one of the greatest stories of all time, if you can’t get past it because is a” ZOMG COMIC BOOK MOVIE ONLY NERDS WATCH LOLOLO I’M SO AWESOME !” you should probably drink some fucking bleach.

The Warcraft movie will be worth watching ONLY if I get to see Thrall destroy some motherfuckers.

  55. Chris November 11th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

IMDB has no mention of a he-man movie in production. thank the stars. There is, however, a mention of a real Thundercats movie to be finished by 2010.

I highly doubt the WOW movie will be any good just for the fact that the story will have to be bipartisan to both factions to please the alliance and horde lovers alike. Hard to come up with a story for something like that unless you make them work together against some threat to both… which completely strays away from what the game is about.

Michael Bay wrote the story for Transformers 2 during the writer’s strike, which translates into, another sucky CGI film with no substance and a few hot babes to gawk at.

And for all those mentioning the new Terminator release, I hope you guys are right that it will be good. I respect Bale, ever since his first role in Empire of the Sun, but McG as the director? I think McLovin’ could do a better job.

  56. itsalljustaride November 11th, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Notice how not one of these movies is an original idea, not one.

Hollywood shouldn’t get cred for making “______ The Movie” or “_____ 2: the Return of ______ ”

Hollywood is now on autopilot. We appreciate you flying Hollywood airlines, we know you have a (limited) choice of film distributors and are glad you’re too lazy and apathetic to be tempted by any of the competition. Have a nice day.

  57. jimbo November 12th, 2008 at 9:13 pm

    “Warcraft
    for super nerds
    .
    .
    Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
okay I still have my transformer from when I was a kid”

    irony…fun for the entire family…

  58. John November 28th, 2008 at 2:05 pm

all these movies are crappy. Where is The New TERMINATER!!!

  59. Chevyiam December 2nd, 2008 at 5:16 am

yep half of these movies sound pretty cool, even tho i think most are fake or wont happen and yes i might just be a comic nerd but guarantee(yes guarantee) ill still kick the shit out of most of you fags lol…ohand say what you want cuz im not coming back to this page.. prolly like ever ahahaha

  60. jimmy December 9th, 2008 at 12:32 pm

    umm…Star Trek? Avatar?! Terminator?!

    this list is retarded

  61. Kevin December 23rd, 2008 at 2:59 pm

I am actually really looking forward to Transformers, GI Joe, Greyskull & watchmen. Terminator should def be on there though and i am NOT 11 - there are a lot more people looking forward to these flicks than you guys think - WHOLE LOT OF NERDS OUT THERE and I am proud to be one of them!!

  62. Kevin December 23rd, 2008 at 3:06 pm

and they missed the animated version of THE MYSTERIOUS CITIES OF GOLD!!!!!

  63. Nickolas Post December 24th, 2008 at 5:07 pm

uuuuh… I’m pretty sure yahoo said Harry potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the #1 and it didn’t even make this list. I think that this list is full of crap ecspecially since four of them won’t be out until 2010 most likely.

  64. JBoy December 26th, 2008 at 1:32 pm

What the hell? What kind of tool are you? I wouldn’t go see one of these movies in the theater.

    What about Old School 2???
