Would you consider a band from a science-fiction short story? If so, then I'd suggest The Four Horsemen from Norman Spinrad's "The Big Flash" -- they certainly had an awesome effect. Of course, if you prefer TV-based science fiction, you could invent a name like "Adam and the Sevrineers" for the hip[pie] music-makers from the original _Star Trek_'s "Way to Eden" episode.

While we're onto TV, I'm a bit surprised that the Impossibles and the Bugaloos have been mentioned, but not the Banana Splits. OTOH, I'm glad someone else remembers the Sacred Cows ("managed" on _Get Smart_ by the Groovy Guru)! And, speaking of _Get Smart_, would you believe two nominees from _Phineas and Ferb_? There's the eponymous Phineas and the Ferb-Tones (and the Ferbettes) singing "Gitchi-Gitchi-Goo (Means I Love You)" . . . which they made after their mom let slip about her own youthful indiscretion of a one-hit wonder, "I'm Lindana and I Wanna Have Fun".

But more melodious to my ear is Love Händel -- with its hit that rose to the top of the pop charts and stayed there for eleven consecutive minutes, "You Snuck Your Way Right Into My Heart". (And even better are some of the songs the former trio-mates sing when the title characters try to make the episode title come true: "Dude, We're Gettin' the Band Back Together!" I know, I know, it sounds crazy -- but it is, and it's pretty darned good music. Find it.)

Clerks doesn't deserve to be up there, because Berserker is a real song by a band called "Love Among Freaks"
