I’ve eaten that last one, the fertilized duck egg. Taste pretty good with some salt and pepper. I guess you just have to be introduced to it early on….

I’ve eaten Balut, It’s really not that bad. It’s a duck, someone’s going to eat it anyway, weather it’s a baby or full grown adult. I’m filipino and that’s part of my culture. It’s pretty good, I like it.

  9. ur face October 1st, 2008 at 12:46 pm

well i didn’t like the rats, but i wouldn’t think the people who eat rats are sickos considering that enjoy an occasional balut, it’s all about the culture…..i was wondering about the turtles,,,so they eat the shells too?! :) ) ease up people :D

Oh, come on now, balut isn’t so bad. I thought it was gross when I was a kid too but as I got older I started liking it. You all probably think it’s disgusting ’cause you stared at it for a while before eating it. If you did that, then duh, of course you’re gonna find it inedible seeing the baby duck’s beady little eyes and tiny beak.

It’s a culture thing. We like duck fetuses, and chicken intestines, etc. etc. So what?

  13. Schelle January 28th, 2009 at 11:34 pm

To everyone who’s saying #1′s disgusting, it’s really not. My mom’s Filipino, thus she quite a bit growing up. No puking, no ‘EWWW!’. It’s just ignorance that makes you say it’s gross. :l

  14. kuku May 4th, 2009 at 5:51 am

number 1 is not really gross. you just have to try it. it’s a delicacy here actually. no puking whatsoever.

  16. heiress June 14th, 2009 at 4:35 pm

come on,,,you cant comment on something that you havent even tasted…balut doesnt taste that bad,,,actually it tastes great…and its really nice…you just think its gross because you havent tried it…ignorance is never a reason to judge another culture….
